Discerning the Priority between GOD’S PRESENCE and ANOINTING”

“The Search Within: Discerning the Priority between GOD’S PRESENCE and ANOINTING”

Seek the ANOINTING/BAPTISM of the Holy Ghost or His presence!

Recently, I finished reading Dr. David Feddes’ book “Seeking God’s Face,” and I think you would find it helpful as well. Instead of focusing on the Holy Ghost baptism and other experiences you might desire, I would counsel you to fix your eyes on Jesus Christ, who is the provenance of life or the wellspring. Give all of it to God in prayer as you set your mind on the word of God and Jesus Christ. What you lack, He will supply. He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? (Romans 8:32/Matthew 7:11) And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive (Matthew 21:22).

Things that we must be aware of:

  1. And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us (1 John 5:14) – In Christ Jesus, has not the heavenly Father bestowed upon us all spiritual blessings? – Ephesians 1:3 – If so, we may approach God with confidence and ask for whatever He has given us or has shed abroad in our hearts through the Holy Spirit (i.e. to satisfy the longing that God has placed in you). The desire and spiritual fervour that arise in us after accepting Christ is a result of the work of the Holy Spirit of God within us. Although you cannot expect to bear fruit immediately after birth, what we have received from God through His Spirit is in the shape of a seed that will eventually bear fruit. It is the effect of Christ living in us. For it is God which works in us both to will and to do of his good pleasure (Philippians 2:13). However, not all those called are chosen or gets designated – Matthew 22:14. Why? Many of the called, who try to build themselves up in accordance with this world will fall short. According to his own labour, each person will be rewarded individually – 1 Corinthians 3:8.                                                                                                                    Many are found slothful – Proverbs 12:24,27/15:19/ 18:9/19:15,24/21:25/ 22:13/24:30/26:13-15/Ecclesiastes 10:18/Matthew 25:26/Romans 12:11/ Hebrews 6:12. When the world’s cares, deceitfulness of wealth, pleasures of this life, and other desires are allowed to take control, the incorruptible word received in the heart – 1Peter 1:23/Luke 8:11, gets choked/ strangled and thus become unproductive/ brings no fruit to perfection – Matthew 13:22/Mark 4:19/ Luke 8:13. When the sun was up (when afflictions, trials come for the word sake’s – Mark 4:17), it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away (Mark 4:6) – the devil comes, and taketh away the word out of their hearts (Luke 8:12). That is why the circumcision of the heart or sanctification of the Spirit is crucial in a Christian’s life – 1Thessalonians 4:3/Galatians 5:24/2 Corinthians 7:1/Romans 2:29. But they that are after the Spirit they mind the things of the Spirit (Romans 8:5) – they labour for the spiritual meat (John 6:27) – they have set their affection on the things above, not on things on the earth – Colossians 3:2. They live to please God and not man. They choose to suffer affliction and bear the reproach of Christ than procuring a name for themselves in this world – Hebrews 11:24-27/Romans 8: 17/1Peter 4:13.
  2. And IF WE KNOW that he hears us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him (1 John 5:15).
  3. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that waver is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways (James 1:6-8).
  4. But all these worketh that one and the self-same Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will (1 Corinthians 12:11).

Example: Abraham staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God (Romans 4:20) – and we ought to walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham (Romans 4:12).

Let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing (James 1:4) – But do we really want to wait? It takes trials/trying of our faith/fiery trials to work (accomplish) patience – Romans 5:3/ James 1:3/1Peter 4:12 –  in other words, to develop patience, we must go through difficulties, tests of our faith, and fiery trials. In this body we do groan – 2 Corinthians 5:2 – for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin (1 Peter 4:1). Godly sorrow is vital, by which we partake of God’s holiness and the divine nature. If we endure chastening of the Lord, it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness (Hebrews 12:5-11/2 Corinthians 7:9,10/2 Peter 1:4). In your patience possess ye your souls – (Luke 21:19). Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience (Makrothumia – a courageous endurance that defies evil). Behold, we count them happy which endure (hupomone – The word ‘hupo’ at the beginning means under, and ‘meno’ means to stay or to remain – putting up with things or circumstances, remaining under, not trying to escape the trials). Ye have heard of the patience of Job and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy – James 5:10,11.

Christianity void of any suffering is a sham.

When the moment comes for you to receive, He will fill your heart with faith. For without ‘faith’ we cannot access the spiritual realm as we intend. And faith, cannot be summoned up as many presume but it comes from God – Galatians 3:23/2 Peter 1:1/Romans 12:6. A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven (John 3:27). God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith – Romans 12:3 – the spirit of faith – 2 Corinthians 4:13.

Long for his abiding presence, and when you have him, you will lack no good thing. In His presence is fulness of joy – Psalms 16:11. We must labour according to the spirit until we come to that state of yearning for the Lord. But we must first work on ourselves by putting off the CORRUPT old man and consistently putting on the Lord (Ephesians 4:22/Romans 13:14) in order to achieve that condition of deep longing for the Lord Jesus Christ. Our flesh is a stronghold, which has a propensity to impede everything of the Spirit. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would (Galatians 5:17). That is why it is crucial to crucify the flesh with its affections and lusts or mortify the deeds of the flesh – Galatians 5:24/Romans 8:13.

The Bible also teaches me to “Put on the Lord”. According to St. Chrysostom of Antioch, this expression was frequently used to denote someone who imitated another – 1Cor 11:1. To simply put, be ye followers of God (Eph 5:1). Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind (1 Peter 4:1).

The spirit of the Lord is the candle of the Lord – Pro 20:27 – and your belly is the area where your spirit-man dwells – John 7:38 – which after God is created – Eph 4:24. “No one, when he has lit a lamp, puts it in a cellar or under a basket, but on a stand, that those who come in may see the light – Luke 11:33. Examine whether this light of your spirit-man is shining or is obscured? If it seems sombre, that’s a sure sign of your spirit undergoing spiritual malnutrition (being neglected). We must feed him with the SINCERE (adolos – unadulterated – KJV) milk of the word of God that we may grow – 1Pet 2:2/Heb 5:13,14. Therefore see whether the light that is in you isn’t darkness – Luke 11:35. Let us work out/exert ourselves to keep this lamp burning – let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit (2 Cor 7:1).

Unfortunately, that is also where the sediments from the world that we have let to enter build, obstructing the deep reservoir’s fountain and allowing the spirits of the world to have a lawful place to live. Give no place to the devil (Ephesians 4:27). We can only be freed from these dregs via the sanctification of the Spirit and the washing of the water by the word of God.

Despite our stance, we must believe and be conscious of the indwelling presence of His Spirit within us. Reckon that by the grace of God alone are we being saved–and not by our merits. For no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly (Psalm 84:11). The LORD God says I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward (Genesis 15:1) – he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him (Hebrews 11:6). Believe it and do not ever become weary asking in prayer!

Reckon that, the precious Holy Ghost and we are partners. Aren’t we sealed with the holy Spirit of promise? Ephesians 1:13 That divine seal cannot be broken, can it? Can anything pierce that divine seal? Who shall lay anything to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifies (Rom 8:33).

When we try to do things on our own, it becomes a life of drudgery having no spirit, no vibrancy, toiling all night, without any result – Luke 5:5. Let’s be sincere and ask ourselves often, do we allow the Spirit to do His work in us? First off, we must believe that He dwells in us (Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his – Rom 8:9); but if you still think that you do not have the Spirit unless you have an overwhelming experience, then it would be impossible to experience anything at all. I do not blame you for your confusion; even I too was once in a confused state. Sadly the Christendom is not only become a domain where the Spirit of the Lord is but also a domain where the spirit of falsehood is, to deceive, to confuse, to disorient, to distort the truth of the word (2 Cor 11:13-15/Matt 13:25,26/24:11/1John 4:1). It has made millions of believers inept and in bondage.

There were times when I was asking God to anoint me. My pleading went on for years and one fine evening while I was strolling in my garden and praying, suddenly I heard an audible thundering sound that sent chills down my spine – the voice said, you don’t know what you are asking for. I knew what the Lord meant when he spoke. Since then I stopped asking the Lord to anoint me; but the Lord through His Spirit began to give me knowledge regarding it and instead of waiting to receive, he taught me how to extract it from my already blessed inner man in Christ.

He is a good father and will not deprive you of anything, but are you prepared to accept? Or do you prefer to maintain both your feet firmly planted in the Spirit and the world? You cannot serve two masters – either you will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other (Matthew 6:24). Is your life worth squandering? He that loves his life shall lose it; and he that hates his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal (John 12:25). For the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world (1 John 2:16). We must follow the manufactures manual only, which is the Bible and not man’s theology.

Because we carry a fallen self, it limits God, so to speak. We are to be blamed for the lack–and God is ever willing–but we limit Him. But there is coming an age where He will wipe all our tears away and you shall see Him face to face and this vile body in which we groan and struggle daily – he will transform it like unto his glorious body – Phil 3:21/Rom 8:18-23

In a sense, God is constrained by our fallen selves. While God is always willing, we are to fault for the deficiency because we put boundaries on Him. According to Phil 3:21 and Rom 8:18–23, there will come a day when He will wipe away all of our tears, and we shall not only see Him face to face but also shall be like Him; and this vile body in which we groan and struggle daily – he will transform it like unto his glorious body – 1 John 3:2.

That doesn’t mean God will withhold any deliverance and healing to take place in this life – but God has His own timing and season, and we must patiently endure unto the end for our Salvation. Allow Him to complete/fulfil further/do/finish/perfect (epiteleo) that good work which he hath begun in us (nevertheless, I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me) – Phil 1:6/Gal 2:20. Let us pass the time of our sojourning in fear, lest we tempt (provoke Christ) or murmur (harbour grumblings) in the heart against Christ, and fall away (depart from Him) like Israel did in the wilderness – Psalm 78:17,18/106:25/1Cor 10:9,10/1Pet 1:17/Isaiah 63:10. They lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert (Psalm 78:17,18/106:14/Numbers 11:34/ 1Corinthians 10:5-11). They were dissatisfied with God’s daily provision. They were gluttonous. You know what they said? Can God furnish a table in the wilderness? (Psalm 78:17-19) I seriously doubt that many of us are similar to them in many ways. How many of us have displeased Him at various times, yet we have been spared by God’s grace? Let us therefore serve God acceptably with reverence and Godly fear – Hebrews 12:28.

Sometime back I remember telling my wife, I am going through a dry season and my being continually longs to be saturated with Christ and I can’t wait for him to come and take his bride away from this evil world. The Scripture comforts with the fact that he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit (1 Cor 6:17). For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming? (1 Thess 2:19) When we set our minds on things above, everything of this world that pulls us down becomes less and less distracting.

Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? (1 Cor 3:16) If this is the case, why would you think that God is far from you and is not concerned about you? Cast all your cares upon Him, for He cares for you – 1Pet 5:7. I strongly believe you will have your answers someday if you believe. Abraham staggered not through unbelief – Rom 4:20. Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men (mere mortals)(know that ye are born of God – Know ye, not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? (2 Corinthians 13:5), be strong (1 Cor 16:13)(but be ye strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man – Eph 3:16). Keep the faith – 2Tim 4:7 – when things seems lacklustre – it might be a test to prove us. Our faith will be tried – James 1:3/1Pet 1:6,7. The fact that we are conversing at all is itself proof of God’s love and grace for you. When it seems to your mind that you are walking alone, know that you are trying to find him with your natural mind. Our natural mind always want experiences to gratify it. It has a propensity to murmur, to disbelief, to quit on God – 1Cor 10 – for it is an agent of the devil until you bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ – 2Cor 10:5. But only with your spiritual eyes or by faith can you perceive Him. Do not try to analyze spiritual things with your mind and speculate. Our minds are comparable to the city of “Jerusalem” that the adversary has been fighting for, for centuries. He who has the control of the mind controls the whole being. If the devil can penetrate the mind, he will have the dominance; but if we let the word of Christ pervade our minds (gird up the loins of your mind – 1 Peter 1:13 – loins girt about with truth – Ephesians 6:14), we thus let the Holy Spirit have total sway. When we were without Christ we lived according to the lusts of our minds – but now we are redeemed and we’ve been instructed to renew the spirit of our minds – Eph 4:23/Rom 12:2 – and make it subject to the spirit-man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness – Eph 4:24.

When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man (mature in spirit/understanding), I put away childish things (1 Cor 13:11).

If I look back into my life, I can see how much of my prayer life has evolved – the language, the mindset, everything is different now than the time of my spiritual birth stages. The more you know God or rather gain knowledge of God and His Son, your words would wane and become few – replacing with groaning, which cannot be uttered – the Spirit takes over and intercedes for us – Rom 8:26. You begin to be led by the Spirit – worship, prayer and everything else He takes over and makes it more internal and personal. His yoke is easy and his burden light – Matt 11:30.

When spiritual things become chores and lacks vibrancy know that it is not done in the Spirit. Self-reliance is the effect of the fall of man and it eventually would lead to self-exaltation. Christian trying to lead a spiritual life by their natural man, which is not subject to the law of God – Rom 8:7 – is the reason for all their spiritual degeneracy. The Corinthian church where the grace of God was abundantly poured upon – 1Cor 1:7 – by living after the natural mind instead of putting on the Lord Jesus Christ – Rom 13:14/Eph 4:24 – and thus was counted among the carnally oriented – 1Cor 3:1-3. The Galatian church, which had begun in the Spirit end up trying to be perfected by the flesh – Gal 3:3, thus they were subject to fail of the grace of God or fall from grace – Gal 5:4/Heb 12:15.

The saints of God who were so powerfully used by God between 1700 and 1900 didn’t have the gift of tongues (I meant ‘glossolalia’ and not ‘xenolalia’). To name a few, D.L Moody (one of the greatest evangelist’s ever lived), C.H. Spurgeon (Prince of preachers), Nelson Darby, Martin Luther, The Wesley’s, William Booth, George Whitfield, etc… the modern-day Billy Graham – yet they were mightily used by God (so I am told). If speaking in tongues is inevitable and is the evidence of Christ indwelling – all this evidence proves us wrong. How were they effective in prayer without the gift of tongues and turned the world upside down? Please note that I am not trying to trivializing the virtue of speaking in tongues; as I also exercise this grace often. Rather, I want to establish a truth a here.

We must understand that: Righteousness, Peace, and Joy in the Holy Ghost are what the kingdom of God is all about – Rom 14:17. For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth (Eph 5:9) – the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law – Gal 5:22-23. Do not measure your worth and spiritual standing with what you don’t have. If you belong to Christ, you have the Spirit of God in you, period. At the same time, I believe tongues do play a major role but not the only evidence of being Spirit-filled. The Corinthian church was endowed with all the gifts of the Spirit, yet they were still carnally inclined. This is demonstrated in 1Cor 5:1/3:1-3, which shows that being filled with the Spirit results in a change of heart and holy living rather than the possession of gifts.

I never spoke in tongues until few years back* (I had to patiently endure 27 years to understand that every born again believer is equipped to speak in tongues; but not everyone gets to speak for diverse reasons – God is not the author of confusion, but we (the natural mindset) and the devils are. All new-borns have the ability to communicate, isn’t that right? Similar to human spirits, those born of God have the ability to communicate), *but I can tell you I was filled with the Spirit many times and God did many miracles through my hands. Even though I had the joy of the Spirit in an overwhelming manner, in my mind, I too was not content until the Lord reprimanded me. You see, I can kind of relate to you. Righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost should be our foundation – Rom 14: 17. Know that, it is God which works in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure (Phil 2:13) – Jesus said, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he sees the Father do: for what things soever he does, these also does the Son likewise (John 5:19). Paul said, by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain, but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me (1 Cor 15:10). He said For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ hath not wrought by me (Rom 15:18). He said also, Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which works in me mightily (Col 1:29). Scripture goes on to say, God will make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well-pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ (Heb 13:21). Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it (Phil 1:6). The effectual working of God’s power makes us effectually working members of His body – Eph 3:7/4:16. Of course, there is a labour that we put in, but the grace of God alone enables us to perform it. Grace = Empowerment.

It is imperative that we grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ – 2 Pet 3:18 – The grace of our, Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit – Philemon 1:25. And we co-labour with God – 1Cor 3:9 – our total yielding to His Spirit and conformation to the word of God is crucial for God to build us up unto the image of His only begotten Son. That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; Holding forth the word of life – Phil 2:15-16.

I can only say that I labour here because of His effectual working in me and that I am able to do only that which Christ hath wrought in me. I have nothing to glory in. I depend on his grace and I constantly ask for more understanding and grace to do things, even to accomplish the least of the things pertaining to this life.

Except ye be converted, and become as little children (humble ourselves), ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven – Matt 18:3,4.

We too must become dependent on the Father to work out all spiritual things in us. The New-Testament prayer is done persistently – Eph 6:18 – Pray without ceasing – 1 Thess 5:17  – and that can be achieved only through the Spirit. The more we grow in the Lord, the less of us we become and our selfish language and words cease to be. You could sense your spirit in anguish and groaning without words, sometimes only tears – but the tears carry an enormous amount of words only God can decipher. The people of Israel groaned because of their slavery and cried out for help. Their cry for rescue from slavery came up to God.                                                                            And God heard their GROANING – Exodus 2:23,24.

There is no doubt that God responds to ze’akah. In the Book of Exodus [22], he even commands, “Do not make the orphan or the widow cry out, for if they cry out (ze’akah – tsa`aq), my anger will burn against you, and you shall be destroyed.” “The voice of thy brother’s blood cries (ze’akah – tsa`aq) unto me from the ground” (Genesis 4:10). God’s heart is greatly moved when he hears ze’akah. God will not put up with oppression or suffering of the weak, the defenceless, or the poor, thus he arrives with great wrath.

If the ministration of death/condemnation, was glorious – and God did hear Israel’s cries, and cared for them – How much more will He hear us, which have the first-fruits of the Spirit and are predestined unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will and are accepted in the beloved – Rom 8:23/Eph 1:5,6 – and have the ministration of the spirit, which excels in glory – 2 Cor 3:7-11!!! God must act on your behalf when He hears your ze’akah, when you cry out to Him.

Prayer according to God’s will is a supernatural activity, which come about within a person (work of the saving grace – praying in the spirit – the Spirit prays in us – Romans 8:26/1Corinthionas 14:14,15/Ephesians 6:18/1 John 5:14).

We are familiar with Mark 5’s account of a man who was possessed by an evil spirit and lived among the graves yet who no man could tame. The Lord gave me insight into it, and I now understand why Jesus said to his disciples in Mark 4:35, “Let us pass over unto the other side,” in the middle of his teaching by the sea was because the man who was possessed by legions, even though his body was under siege, his inner man yearned for his liberation – he cried within him to meet this man of Galilee, whom he had heard about – and Jesus sensed it.

There is a void in every human being where only God has access to, where no demons can take over – that part of this man yearned for the Son of man, and when Jesus heard him cry (ze’akah), he instantly withdrew from the crowd to set him free. This man’s life demonstrates a distinct aspect of praying.

Some use good words as prayer (with noble intentions) but have discordant hearts and minds. Furthermore, if the prayer is not swathed in faith it produces no result.

The key to having effective prayer has many aspects: First off, we should keep in mind that, God is no respecter of persons (Acts 10:34). Now we know that God hears not sinners (sinner means an unbeliever): but if any man be a worshipper of God, and does his will, him he hears – John 9:31 – And your Father knows what things ye have need of, before ye ask him – Matthew 6:8 – And if we know that he hears us (this is crucial – our mind plays an important role), whatsoever we ask (without doubting – 1Tim 2:8), we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him – 1 John 5:15 – But without faith, it is impossible to please him (for whatsoever is not of faith is sin – Rom 14:23): for he that cometh to God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him (Heb 11:6). Psalms 34:15  says The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their cry.

To walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, and to be fruitful in every good work, and to increase in the knowledge of God; to be Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and long-suffering with joyfulness, we need to be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding (Col 1:9-11).

If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? (Luke 11:13) Even though we have received the Spirit of adoption – Rom 8:15 – the continual supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ – Phil 1:19 – is indispensable – be continually filled with the Spirit – Eph 5:18. Be filled with the Spirit – STOP seeking baptism and focus on being filled, but how? Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ – Eph 5:19-20 – Laying apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls – James 1:21 – Let the word of Christ dwell in you (sow to the Spirit – Gal 6:8) richly in all wisdom (we must, therefore, labour (ergazomai) for this meat – John 6:27); teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord – Col 3:16. If we ignore these truths and try other methods to be filled, I can tell you it will be futile and will be very dispirited at the end. Follow only the word of God.

The gift of tongues does help our prayer life. He that speaks in an unknown tongue edifies (oikodomeo – expands/builds) himself (1 Cor 14:4). For he that speaks in an unknown tongue speaks not unto men, but unto God: for no man understands him; howbeit in the spirit he speaks mysteries (1 Cor 14:2) – building up (epoikodomeo – build thereupon) yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost (Jude 1:20).

One could maintain a healthy relationship with God even without the gift of tongues. But this gift can elevate you to another level in the spirit.

But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavers is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let, not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord – James 1:6-7. Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see – Heb 11 – this faith must come from God – we cannot fabricate it. We can ask the Lord to increase our faith – Luke 17:5/2Cor 10:15.

Let us not be weary in well-doing (when it seems that God’s not responding): for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not (Gal 6:9) – with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God (Phil 4:6) – Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance (Eph 6:18) – Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: WAIT, I say, on the Lord (Psalm 27:14) – Knowing this, that the trying of your faith works patience. But let (allow/permit) patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing – James 1:3-4.

Let’s also investigate the baffling issue at hand. Does the Bible truly instruct us to seek the Baptism of the Holy Spirit or the Anointing, or be baptized in the holy Spirit, which many ministers of God coerce the believers into? I believe the words “Baptism” and “Anointing” are subject to the time when a person gets inducted into the body of Christ. It is the work of God to initiate him or her into the kingdom of Christ. God seals a soul by His eternal Spirit by way of quickening – Ephesians 1:13. By way of spiritual birth/regeneration – John 3:6,8 – God secures a soul or get possession of him/her as His own. He thus snatches the soul from the power of the enemy of the souls, which is Satan. He thus delivers us from the power of darkness and translates us into the kingdom of his dear Son (Colossians 1:13). For ye are bought with a price – 1 Corinthians 6:20. Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world – 1 John 4:4.

Now he which established us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God, who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts (2 Corinthians 1:21,22).

This verse stipulates four things that would take place during the initiation process.

  1. He established us – our hearts established with grace – Hebrews 13:9.
  2. He anointed us – ye have an unction from the Holy One – 1 John 2:20 – the anointing which ye have received of him abides in you – 1 John 2:27.
  3. He sealed us – sealed with that holy Spirit of promise – Ephesians 1:13.
  4. He gave us of His holy Spirit - have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father – Romans 8:15 – because we are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, Abba, Father – Galatians 4:6 – your body IS the temple of the Holy Ghost – 1 Corinthians 6:19 – Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? 1 Corinthians 3:16

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God – Romans 8:14. How can we be led if we don’t have the Spirit of God? But if we have the Spirit of God and that God has already established, anointed, washed, sanctified, justified, and sealed us by and with the Spirit of God – 1 Corinthians 6:11, what is the logic behind seeking after it?

I have wasted many years seeking that which isn’t required by God. One time, God rebuked me for my ignorance. I was not only seeking that which the word of God did not accede to but I had no clue whatsoever about what I was asking for? I had acquired this understanding that I need to be baptized in the Spirit to receive anything from the Lord or to become legally entitled in Christ. Is that a fact?

The word of God enjoins us thus:

  • Be filled with the Spirit – Ephesians 5:18
  • Be filled with the fruits of righteousness – Philippians 1:11
  • Be filled with all the fulness of God – Ephesians 3:19
  • As new-born babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby – 1 Peter 2:2
  • Grow in grace – 2 Peter 3:18
  • Grow in faith – 2 Thessalonians 1:3/2 Corinthians 10:15
  • Stand fast in the faith – 1 Corinthians 16:13
  • Continue in the faith grounded and settled – Colossians 1:23
  • Be rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith – Colossians 2:7
  • Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life – 1 Timothy 6:12
  • Hold fast the faithful word – Titus 1:9
  • Let us go on unto perfection – Hebrews 6:1
  • Walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing – Colossians 1:10
  • Ye bear much fruit – John 15:8
  • Be ye holy – 1 Peter 1:16
  • Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect – Matthew 5:48
  • Be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed – Romans 12:2, etc….

How could we achieve all these stature without having the holy Spirit reigning in us? I couldn’t trace one single verse from the Scriptures, otherwise.

Things to know about Anointing/Baptism of the Holy Ghost.

  • There is only One Anointed person (Jesus Christ, Christos meaning, Anointed, i.e., the Messiah) – God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power – Acts 10:38.
  • The anointing proceeds down to the body from the head, who is Christ, the Anointed one.
  • You should never refer to yourself as the Anointed One because that is the same as saying you are the Messiah.
  • As there is both an Inner and an Outer call of God, there is also an inner unction and an outer unction. One is for personal spiritual development and the other for service.
  • There is a corporate ‘anointing’- the Church as a body of believers.
  • We receive an anointing to build ourselves up when we come to Christ – the anointing which ye have received of him abides in you – 1 John 2:27 – this anointing or grace given is to grow in the spirit and to conform to God’s nature and holiness.
  • Outer call – Anointing to minister (grace/empowerment of God – 1Corinthians 15:10).
  • Baptised into one body by the Spirit – initiation into the body of believers/Christ – 1 Corinthians 12:13.
  • There is made available a deeper stage in the Spirit that one can have access to, but only few would reach that high calling of God in Christ (many are called but few are chosen – Matthew 22:14 – who would become the pillars of the Church – men who were mightily used by God). An enduement of power – Luke 24:49 – ye shall receive power (dunamis), after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you – Acts 1:8. At new-birth, the Holy Spirit of Christ comes to dwell in us, but this enduement is the Holy Ghost coming UPON and resting on a person. When I washed my steps with butter (the word of God), and the rock (Christ) poured me out rivers of oil (Job 29:6) – waters to swim in, a river that could not be passed over (Ezekiel 47:5). The Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him – Acts 5:32 – out of his belly shall flow RIVERS of living water (John 7:38).

The young lions do lack and suffer hunger: but they that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing (Psalm 34:10) –

no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly (Psalm 84:11).

For he satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness (Psalm 107:9)

‘YE ARE GODS’ (Elohim’s)- Examining the True Intent Behind His Statement”.

“Decoding Jesus’ Words: ‘YE ARE GODS’ (Elohim’s)- Examining the True Intent Behind His Statement”.

Is it Blasphemous to Consider Ourselves as divine beings?”

I’ve observed Christians having trouble answering this question. For so long, we have been debating whether it is blasphemous to think of ourselves as divine beings. Perhaps it’s past time for us to stop putting it off and find a solution. One party claims that it is heretical to even consider that we are “Elohim’s,” (gods) whereas the other believes that we are.

Elohim or ‘Elohiym’ is a plural noun for “gods” or “deities.” In the New testament the word ‘Theos’ has a broad usage. Strong’s Concordance defines it as, “a deity, especially … the supreme Divinity; fig. a magistrate.”

To understand the true meaning of Jesus’ statement, it is important to examine the Bible. Yes, Jesus said to the unregenerate, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world (John 8:23). But is that how the Spirit of God addresses them that are born of Him? We have the mind of Christ, haven’t we? (1 Corinthians 2:16)

So let’s investigate to discover its genuine meaning.

When studying the Bible, it’s important to remember that the ministry to the Gentile Church began with Cornelius’ household in Acts 10 and that, according to tradition, the first Gentile church was established in Antioch (Acts 11:20–21), where it is stated that the followers of Jesus Christ were first referred to as Christians (Acts 11:26).

In the book of Acts, not only the conversion from Judaism to fully formed Christianity is being described, but also a brief note of the Law’s position. The disciples, like all Jews, celebrated the feast of Pentecost, and even after the Spirit had come to dwell among them, they continued to visit the temple and keep the prayer times. And according to Acts 10, the earliest followers of Jesus thought that in order to be fully eligible for God’s blessings, one had to adhere to Jewish ceremonial traditions.

So, the principles presented in the Scriptures prior to Acts 10 must be understood in the context of the entire narrative. Remember that while Jesus was on the earth, preaching all the parables and whatnot, he even forbade the Apostles from serving the Gentiles – Matthew 10:5,6 – since the law and the prophets were still in effect.

Jesus said, the law and the prophets were until John (Luke 16:16). Even in Acts 19 it was clear that some disciples were unaware of the existence of the Holy Ghost because they were only familiar with the concept of repentance baptism. In Acts 10 we see that God revealing to Peter in a vision that the gospel should be preached to the Gentiles.

Simply put, while the first tabernacle was still intact, the path to the holiest of all places had not yet become clear (Hebrews 9:8). A testament is invalid if the testator is still alive (Hebrews 9:16,17).

In order to avoid confusion, conflict, and chaos, let’s be careful not to choose one verse from the Synoptic Gospels or other parts of the Bible and exploit it or reject it entirely to support our ideology. Study (spoudazo – make effort, give diligence, endeavour, labour) to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15).

When you hear someone quote a passage without comprehending what it really means, don’t lose your calm. You could provide clarification and a correction if you are aware of the term. Why, however, do you believe that you should completely reject it and the idea? It is disheartening to see the “Cessationists,” who contend that the Apostolic age marked the end of spiritual gifts, criticizing those who accept phrases like “ye are gods” without providing a correct context. As long as a passage is in the Bible, it has been inspired by the Holy Spirit – 2 Timothy 3:16, and there should be a deeper meaning behind the words He chose.

The question is: When the word of God describes us as new creatures in Christ, how could we go on distinguishing ourselves as mere men? False humility would portray them as worms and sinners and such, but God says the contrary. Let God be true and EVERY man a liar! Romans 3:4

To emphasize what I am attempting to elaborate on, I would like to incorporate my personal life experience.

Looking back into my life, I just cannot believe how decrepit, depraved, wicked and hopeless I was until God in Christ saved me and planted me in Him. Such a supernatural act of transformation is only possible via the gracious work of God’s word within the human soul.

God in Christ sought me and saved me and made me a NEW creature, transforming me into a new person as the incorruptible word fell into the soil of my heart and revived me – 1Peter 1:23. My former pals were unable to recognize me later. Why? This is how God transformed me–my entire being metamorphosed into a new person. My mentality, my speech, my attitude, my temperament, my behaviour, my attributes, my level of living, and my outlook on life have all changed to a greater extent.

I cannot understand how this transformation in myself has happened, but only God who created me in my mother’s womb could do this kind of recasting. This new species of human would be the result of a “hypostatic union”—a blend of earthly and divine concoction. And when combined with others of the same fold, it becomes a sanctuary for God to dwell in – 1Peter 2:5.

Why did Jesus say, ‘ye are gods’ (‘Elohim’s)? Can the regenerate one’s be assigned to this category or Is it blasphemous to consider ourselves god’s in the light of the Scriptures?

The unregenerate will perish like men (Psalm 82:7/Matthew 8:12) and are referred to as “the natural man” (1 Corinthians 2:14) and “the natural brute creatures” (2 Peter 2:12). But does the Spirit of God speak to those who are His children in that way? Definitely not! The regenerate, they have passed (departed, removed) from death unto life (John 5:24), and having been quickened by His Spirit – Ephesians 2:5 – are seated in heavenly places in Christ as kings and priests unto God the Father – Ephesians 2:6/Revelation 1:6/5:10/1Corinthians 4:8.

In Psalms 82:6, the judges of the Old Testament were referred to be “gods” (Elohim’s). “Gods” were used to refer to magistrates, judges, princes, mighty, and other figures of authority. The word Elohim, which is Hebrew, is translated as “judges” in Exodus 21:6 and 22:8, 9, and 28.

When a human magistrate is referred to as “god,” it implies that they hold authority over others, their civil power is to be feared, and that they derive their power and authority from God, as depicted in verse 8 of Psalms 82, who is considered the ultimate judge of the entire earth. Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers (delegated authority). For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resists the power, resists the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation (Romans 13:1-4).

Can a born-again Christian be said to have greater authority and power than the Old Testament saints? The word of God says, as many as received him, to them gave He power (exousia – magistrate, superhuman, potentate, delegated influence: — authority, jurisdiction, liberty, power, right, strength) to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name (John 1:12).

They were God’s servants, but we are God’s children/sons of God – Galatians 4:7/1 John 3:2. But the children of God are counted among the Elohim’s and Jesus was only reiterating the Old Testament Scripture in John 10:34. I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High (Psalm 82:6). Jesus’ accusers in the Jewish community sought to stone him because they said, “You, being a man, make Yourself out to be god (“Theos,” John 10:33). The verse “you are gods” from Psalm 82:6 is used by Jesus to justify himself. If Jesus had known that it was a reference to false gods, he would not have done so. But he quoted from the prophets to uphold what he was saying.

By the same token, Jesus gave us power (delegated authority) to become sons of God. As he is, so are we in this world (1 John 4:17). Who do you believe to have more authority and power? The church of Jesus Christ or the earthly monarchs?

God hath put all things under Jesus’ feet and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him that fills all in all – Ephesians 1:22,23. Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world and the angels? (1 Corinthians 6:2,3) The saints of the most High shall take the kingdom, and possess the kingdom for ever, even for ever and ever – Daniel 7:18 – And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High (Daniel 7:27).

This verse truly has prophetic implications for the Bride of Christ and the planet’s future judges, priests, and kings (Rev 1:6/20:6/1 Cor 6:2).

The church (the body of Christ) wields tremendous power not only to rule and reign as kings but also to judge the world and the angels – 2 Timothy 2:12/1 Corinthians 6:2,3. The gates of hell shall not prevail against it (Matthew 16:18) – For, the weapons of her warfare are mighty – 2 Corinthians 10:4. The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what the hope of his calling is, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints and what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe (Ephesians 1:18,19).

By the revealing of the sons of God in their glorified bodies, the creation itself shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption – Romans 8:18-23. Our spirit/the inner man is created after God in righteousness and true holiness – Ephesians 4:24 – and we who behold the glory of the Lord are changed into the same image (likeness, resemblance, representation) from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord (2 Corinthians 3:18). Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he (Jesus Christ) shall appear, he not only shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body (Philippians 3:21) but also shall become like him (1 John 3:2) – a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ (Ephesians 4:13).

If so, how could we continue to adjudge ourselves as mere men when the Bible declares us to be “new creatures” in Christ – 2 Corinthians 5:17? Should we see us in the light of the Bible or man-made ideology? When God says the opposite, them who practice ‘false humility’ would like to think of themselves as worms, sinners, and such similar things. Which, considering these principles, is defiance.

The redeeming work of God on the cross of Calvary took care of everything that prevented us from being profitable or fruitful. Nevertheless, we are responsible to shrug off or discard that which God hath severed or uprooted. Didn’t Christ disarm the enemy of our souls? Didn’t God in Christ condemn sin in the flesh of His only begotten Son? He did spoil principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, and triumphed over them in it (Colossians 2:15) – He did condemn sin – Romans 8:3.

God made Jesus Christ, who knew no sin, to be sin for us. But why? so that in him, we may become God’s righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21).

See how crucial the renewal of our mind is! The Israelites were still held hostage in their minds even after being freed from Pharaoh’s servitude. They believed themselves to be “half-Egyptian,” so to speak. They retreated once more into Egypt in their hearts – Acts 7:39. I wonder if Christians today are behaving in the same way—thus neglecting so great salvation God in Christ hath wrought (Hebrews 2:3).

According to the Scriptures, all of these things happened unto them (Israel) for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come (1 Corinthians 10:11).

Likewise, we must reckon ourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:11). Even when we were dead in sins, God hath quickened us together with Christ (Ephesians 2:5). We are more than conquerors, aren’t we? (Romans 8:37) Who shall lay anything to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifies (Romans 8:33).

I have learned a great deal as I moved closer to spiritual maturity. When I said, ‘Maturity’ it is a state of coming of full age in the spirit to recognize both good and evil, i.e., I am no more a babe in Christ, being tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine– Hebrews 5:13, 14/1Peter 2:2/1 Corinthians 3:1-3/Ephesians 4:14. The level of exhilaration you experience in the “Academy of the Spirit” cannot be matched by any other adventure in the world.

One of the pinnacles of my spiritual growth was the day the spirit of the WORLD truly left me.

During this stage, you will feel numb toward sin, both its weight and its once-easily-besotted nature that used to captivate us so easily – Hebrews 12:1/1Peter 4:1/2Corinthians 7:1/Romans 7:23; not to mention, the lustre of the world and its allurements too will vanish.

Even though the procedure was occasionally agonizing – Hebrews 12:5-11/1Peter 4:1,12,13, it was immensely satisfying and worth the effort. I can see that, in a sense, I have become incompetent according to the flesh, but my spirit has become alive and well. Therefore, even with the inherent sinful nature, I just cannot consider myself as a ‘mere man’ anymore, but a spiritual person who now possess a holy spirit, which after God is created in His own likeness, in righteousness and true holiness (Ephesians 4:24/Colossians 3:10).

Because of this and in light of what the Bible says, I would venture to consider myself to be a righteous man despite the inherent carnal nature that the fall has ensconced in all of us. For, if we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us (1 John 1:8). For a just man falls seven times and rises up again (Proverbs 24:16).

Similar to how a child must experience multiple falls before learning to walk, we all have a tendency to stumble and go astray throughout our spiritual infancy. I must confess that during those formative years, I made some major mistakes. I loved the world and everything in it, but I was also prideful, haughty, harboured unchaste desires and such.

When I was a child (nepios – an immature Christian, a babe in Christ – yet carnal – 1 Corinthians 3:1-3/1 Peter 2:2), I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man (spiritual maturity), I PUT AWAY childish things (1 Corinthians 13:11). According to Romans 8:13 and Ephesians 3:16, when you grow in the spirit, you develop/attain inner strength (dunamis), which enables you to subdue or mortify the actions of the flesh. Some people think that once you have access to divine power, you will perform feats of strength and marvels. That may be the case, but the main goal of this power bestowment is to conform you to the image of Jesus Christ.

Even though I battled a lot of sin during my developing stage, it did not restore my pre-sanctified status, since I had already been made holy in Christ. I’m not endorsing sin in any way, but what I’m trying to say is that if we are sincere in our hearts and have a great desire to live righteously but are unable to, God will never leave us, no matter what condition we are in.

The wonder of it is that Jesus Christ lives in every true believer, and it is God that works in us both to will and to do according to His good pleasure – Philippians 2:13. Hence, Christ’s abiding presence in me, through His eternal Spirit makes me a holy Temple – Galatians 2:20/Colossians 1:27/1 Corinthians 3:16/6:19. I am crucified with Christ (I am dead with Christ – Romans 6:4,8/ Ephesians 2:5/Colossians 2:20/3:3), nevertheless I live, YET NOT I, but Christ living in every true believer. Christ living in me, is the hope of glory, Galatians 2:20/Colossians 1:27.

I assume I said “believer” in error. The Holy Spirit corrects me: the benchmark for a true believer is someone who was born of God – John 3:7. The Father God will pursue us with love, and He deals with us as Sons if we will but endure His chastening (Hebrews 12:5–11/Proverbs 3:11/Job 5:17/Deuteronomy 8:5/Isaiah 64:8). The Lord has compassion on those who fear him, just as a father has compassion on his children – Psalms 103:13/Deuteronomy 1:31/Jeremiah 3:4,19/ 31:20/Isaiah 63:16/Hosea 11:1/Malachi 3:17. The Scriptures also describe how the Lord would compassionately care for those under his care, just as a mother would – Isaiah 49:15, 66:13, and Psalms 27:10.

You do well if you believe there is only one God; the devils also believe and quake. Ergo, just believing in God does not count for sonship (James 2:19). And the Spirit will bear witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God (Romans 8:16).

When I was a babe in Christ, I considered myself a believer and a servant of God (my understanding of God was deficient); but as I grew in spirit, I came to realize my inheritance in Christ. BECAUSE ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father (Galatians 4:6). Thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ (Galatians 4:7).

I struggled for a long time with the thought that God had just adopted me and that I am a second-class citizen, but it wasn’t until God illuminated my understanding and pressed His truths into my being that I realized I was truly a child of God—born from above.

Paul addresses Onesimus, whom he begets during his time in prison as “which in time past unprofitable” but not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved (Philemon 1:10-16).

Since the presence of sin in us makes us inclined to stray from God, according to Romans 7:17, The Spirit of the Lord will raise a standard against the adversary when he enters like a flood (Isaiah 59:19).

Without the Holy Spirit, we will undoubtedly experience stunted growth and even potentially stop God’s work within us through our disobedience. The outcome depends on whom we yield ourselves to obey – Romans 6:16. The bottom line is that, if we live after the flesh, we shall die but if we through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, we shall live (Romans 8:13).

Who shall lay anything to the charge of God’s elect? (Romans 8:33) – And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous (1 John 2:1). Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need (Hebrews 4:16).

This indemnity in Christ doesn’t give us the privilege to be slack in our spiritual life. Just because Christ hath set us free doesn’t make us immune to sin, the devil, and the world. We must be on our guard always, lest we be beguiled, and our minds be corrupted by the serpent (2 Corinthians 11:3).

If we ignore our spiritual position in Christ and allow the false humility that has its carnal origins, that will only make us self-conceited who are rejoicing in pride.

In Christ, who do we become? Joint heirs with Christ and heirs of God (Romans 8:17).

Whom would you trust? The Bible or traditions/man-made doctrines?

The word of God enjoins us to reckon that we are dead with Christ – Romans 6:4,8/Colossians 2:12 – and God hath raised us up together with Christ and made us SIT together in heavenly places in Christ – Ephesians 2:6. Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh (2 Corinthians 5:16).

You can see how different we are from the rest of the world in this way! In order to save us from this present evil world, Jesus sacrificed himself in exchange for our sins (Galatians 1:4). By believing in him, God hath separated us from the world, sin, and the devil. As we live according to the Spirit—death, and sin, which once held sway, will lose its hold. You will be free from the power of sin as you acknowledge this truth (Romans 6:14).

Where are we seated right now? We have come to Mount Zion, and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable multitudes of angels to the general assembly and assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect, to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better than that of Abel (Hebrews 12:22-24).

Therefore, don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind (supplant your assumptions with the law of the Spirit of life – Romans 8:2/Colossians 3:16), so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God (Romans 12:2). Do not love the world or the things that are found in it. We may use this world – Colossians 2:20-23 – but not to misuse it – 1 Corinthians 7:31.

According to 1 John 2:15, a man or woman who loves this world will not possess the love of God the Father. His love will not be in them, period. According to James 4:4, God adjudge people who make friends with this world as His enemies and categorizes them as adulterers (spiritual fornication/infidelity – by coalescing with the spirit of the world – Ephesians 2:2).

Know that it is a solid sign that either you are not living according to the Spirit or that you are still a babe in Christ who needs to mature according to the spirit if you are still struggling to overcome the burden and with the sin, which easily entangles you – Hebrews 12:1/Romans 7:23.

They that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts (Galatians 5:24).

The law of sin and death must be replaced with the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus, which entails being renewed in the spirit of our minds, according to Ephesians 4:23/Romans 8:2. Even though we perceive that we are still in this earthly body, we must consider that in the spirit we are seated above the earthly realm. If we disregard or are slothful or are unwilling to work out our own salvation – Philippians 2:12/Proverbs 18:9/24:30,31 –  in PUTTING OFF the old man (depravity – filthiness of the flesh and spirit), which is corrupt, and PUT ON the new man, which after God is created, as stated in Ephesians 4:22/Colossians 3:8/2 Corinthians 7:1, and PUT ON the Lord Jesus Christ – Romans 13:14, we would not only fail to see ourselves in the light of the Scriptures but also constantly be aware of our fallen selves and our miserable, sad lives.

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom” (Colossians 3:16). It requires a lot of work for the message of Christ to fully abide in us – John 6:27/Proverbs 19:15/24:30. But, if we are preoccupied with how to build/establish our lives in accordance with this world, how can we be able to maintain it for eternal life? After all, John 12:25 states that anybody who loves his life in this world will lose it. Therefore, be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves (James 1:22). Let the word of God become our first love.

We can see that the Bible features two Adams.

Is there a distinctness in both Adams? In every respect, there is. What makes them dissimilar? The first man Adam, (is of the earth); he was made a LIVING SOUL; the last Adam was made a QUICKENING SPIRIT; and he is the Lord from heaven (1 Corinthians 15:45,47). And as is the earthy (the first Adam), such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly (the last Adam), such are they also that are heavenly (1 Corinthians 15:48) – that which is born of the Spirit is spirit (John 3:6)

That being so, what do we learn from this? As is the heavenly (the last Adam), such are they also that are heavenly. According to Timothy–the church of the living God being the pillar and ground of the truth (1 Timothy 3:15) – the only entity which came to possession of the extreme great power of God (Ephesians 1:17-23/2Corinthinans 10:4) – how could we belittle and count ourselves but dung. We are nothing more than a bunch of clowns if we don’t learn who we are and whose we are.

The Spirit of God instructs us to examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith (Pistis – persuaded, assurance); prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? (2 Corinthians 13:5)

Why did Jesus furnish the Church, His body with the necessary offices? One purpose is to perfect the saints of God, right? Ephesians 4:11-13

We know that whosoever is born of God sins not – 1 John 5:18 – And he that is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is judged of no man (1 Corinthians 2:15)

We’re all royalty now, aren’t we? 1Pet 2:9/1 Corinthians 4:8/Revelation 1:6/5:10. Were His holiness and divine nature not ours to possess? 2 Peter 1:4/Hebrews 12:10 That is why Jesus Christ is said to as “the King of kings and Lord of lords.”1 Timothy 6:15/Revelation 17:14/19:16 – For the Lord your God (Elohiym) is God of gods (Elohiym), and Lord of lords – Deuteronomy 10:17. It couldn’t possibly imply that Yahweh (Jehovah) is the God of false gods, can it? Now therefore ye are no more strangers (xenos – a guest) and foreigners (paroikos – a by-dweller), but fellow citizens (sumpolites – a native) with the saints, and of the household of God (Ephesians 2:19).

You can see that the Hebrew word “Elohim” or “Elohiym,” when employed in the Bible, does not refer to a false god but rather to judges, mighty, princes, angels, God, etc. We see the Psalmist intones in Psalms 138:1, “before the gods (elohim’s) will I sing praise unto thee”.

When the book of Exodus 21:6/22:8,9 and 1 Samuel 2:25 render ‘elohim’ as “judges”—Psalms 8:5 (Strong’s number H430) translates ‘elohim’ as angles – KJV – inevitably ‘elohim’ can mean someone in authority, an angel or a child of God. God stands in the congregation of the mighty; he judges among the gods. I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High (Psalm 82:1,6).

Let’s recapitulate some of the main points:

Every time you see ‘Elohim’ being appended to humans it signifies a position of honour and authority. The glory of his inheritance in the saints, and the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe – Ephesians 1:18-19. Behold, I give unto you power (exousia – mastery (concretely, magistrate, superhuman, potentate, token of control), delegated influence, authority) to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you (Luke 10:19). But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: (John 1:12)

‘El, with its derived words ‘Elim, ‘Elohim, and ‘Eloah, is one of the most traditional and extensively used terms for Deity known to the human race. It is a collective phrase that refers to all deities as a whole. Even among men, it may signify a position of honour and authority.

The King James Version translates variously: judges, vast, mighty, God, gods, and angels.

Its New Testament counterpart is ‘Theos’.

In Acts 12:22 (ASV), the Jews referred to Herod as “Theos” because they were yelling, “The voice of a god (“Theos”) and not of a man!”

He called them gods, unto whom the word of God came – John 10:35 – At one point, Satan is even mentioned – 2 Corinthians 4:4.

Simply put, the Bible uses the Greek word for “god,” Strong’s 2316 “Theos,” to refer to more than just Jehovah.

For instance: According to the ancient Testament The Hebrew word “Elohim” (god) can refer to any important person (e.g. Abraham, Genesis 23:6). Aaron and Pharaoh both referred to Moses as “Elohim” (Exodus 7:1). (Exodus 4:16; compare Judges 5:8; 1 Samuel 2:25; Psalms 82:1) – to describe individuals who represent God or who are in His presence (1 Samuel 28:13). Elohim’s are the name given to angels (Psalms 8:5). So were judges referred to in Exodus 21:6. It is, therefore, a general term denoting majesty and authority, and it only started being employed as a proper name for the God of Israel in the later stages when the previous proper name Yahweh was deemed to be too sacred to be spoken.

Now the issue is at hand. Do we serve as God’s representatives here on earth? 2 Corinthians 5:20 Is He with us right now? Are we in His presence? The correct response is that we serve as both God’s ambassadors and His abode/spiritual house – 1 Peter 2:5/Ephesians 2:22/1 Corinthians 3:16/6:19. What does that make us then? Elohim’s, yes?

Jesus is not claiming that humans are divine or on par with God; rather, he is stating that they can be referred to as “gods” in a restricted sense since they serve as God’s emissaries on earth.

When the people of Lystra would have worshipped Paul and Barnabas as heathen gods, the apostle protests that God is not like men, and bases His majesty upon His creatorship of all things – Acts 14:15. God alone is to be worshipped. “God (Elohim) stands in the divine assembly (‘ăḏaṯ-‘êl); He judges among the gods (Elohim’s)” Psalms 82

Every time ‘Elohim’ is alluded to God it denotes one thing—that the God of Israel is the highest, the most exalted, among the ‘Elohim’s’. I am the Lord (Yhovah), and there is none else, there is no God (‘Elohim) beside me (Isaiah 45:5).

The term “gods” is used to describe the spiritual potential of a regenerate Christian; in other words, born again Christians have the potential to reflect the character and nature of God in their lives. This potential is realized through a process of spiritual growth and transformation, which involves developing a deeper understanding of God’s nature and character and aligning one’s own life with these values. This interpretation is supported by Jesus’ own words in John 10:34-36, where he quotes Psalm 82:6 and suggests that all human beings have the potential to be “sons of God.”

The verse also implies that unlike other creatures, human beings have a special relationship with God. As Jesus said, “I and the Father are one” (John 10:30). This statement suggests that Jesus had a unique relationship with God, which was based on his divine nature. However, Jesus also said that his followers could have a similar relationship with God. He prayed, “I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me” (John 17:22-23).

  1. Jesus answered them, is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods (Theos)? (John 10:34,35)
  2. He called them gods, unto whom the word of God came (John 10:35)
  3. The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master (Luke 6:40) – we speak wisdom among them that are perfect (that are made whole, mature in spirit) (1 Corinthians 2:6/3:1-3/1Peter 2:2/Hebrews 5:13,14)
  4. And the Lord said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god (‘Elohim) to Pharaoh: and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet (Exodus 7:1).
  5. I have said, Ye are gods (‘Elohim); and all of you are children of the most High (Psalm 82:6)
  6. God stands in the congregation of the mighty; he judges among the gods (Psalm 82:1)
  7. Ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people (1 Peter 2:9)
  8. Know ye not that we shall judge the world and the angels? (1 Corinthians 6:2,3)

Must a sinner REPENT to be justified?

Must a sinner REPENT to be justified?

How can a soul repent of sins, without being convicted first? How can a person save himself when he is dead?

‘Dead’ in Greek is ‘Nekros’, which means, destitute of life, without life, inanimate, totally depraved. Metaph = spiritually dead, destitute of a life that recognizes and is devoted to God, because given up to trespasses and sins, inactive as respects doing right, destitute of force or power, inactive, inoperative, etc…

Turn thou us unto thee, O Lord, and we shall be turned (Lamentations 5:21)

In THY righteousness give me life/quicken me – Psalms 119:40.

By the righteousness of one (the last Adam) the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life (Romans 5:18/1Corinthians 15:45)

If that be the case, how could God command all men everywhere to repent? (Acts 17:30) Why does the Scripture often seem incongruous? Let’s see what it means!

Jesus said, With men this is impossible, but with God, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26).

For as the Father raises up the dead, and quickens them; even so the Son quickens WHOM HE WILL (John 5:21).

And no man can come to the Son, EXCEPT the Father which hath sent him draw him (John 6:44).

Jesus of Nazareth lived, believed, fulfilled the requirement of the law and God raised him from the dead – Acts 3:15 – not for himself* (Messiah be cut off, but not for himself – Daniel 9:26 – unlike other high priests, this Son, is consecrated for evermore – Heb 7:28 – he is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners – Heb 7:26 – though he was similar to us according to the flesh, he was able to offer himself without spot to God THROUGH the eternal Spirit – Heb 9:14) *but he did it all for us – he pleased God on our behalf by his obedience and thus made us right with God, he quickened us together with him, having forgiven all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross (Col 2:13,14).

So now God commands all men everywhere to repent! On one side, He is letting us know–making us aware of the need for repentance, which is the starting point. Jesus said, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish (Luke 13:3). That’s the requisite and that’s the bare truth. But the question is, can a sinner fulfill the demand? Or does a mere man possess the potential to execute that stipulation? That is what we shall investigate.

Yes, we all should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance (Acts 26:20) – God wants all men everywhere to repent – I am not repudiating that at all; all I am saying is that “this repentance must be wrought by God (the work of the Spirit of God) within the heart of man” before one could do works meet for repentance. What use would it serve to spread grace and truth otherwise? John 1:17

Apostle Paul instructed Timothy that – In meekness should one instruct those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth (2 Timothy 2:25)

Know that an unregenerate soul–being in a dead state is unable to respond to the holy calling; and we expect them to repent? Repent from what? Israel knew their God; hence, they should repent. But we had no hope, and were without God in the world – Eph 2:12. Being dead in sins, God would quicken the elect by His Spirit in order to make them respond – Eph 2:5/Rom 4:17/ John 5:21. He by His eternal Spirit quickens our spirit – John 6:63/3:6.

If a man could repent on his own, then Christ would not have come. The truth is, we need to be SAVED* (a sinner must be SAVED from God before he/she could be SAVED from the power of the enemy – that is where propitiation comes in – Propitiation refers to God’s wrath, which must be appeased or calmed – Rom 3:24,25 – Propitiation is a blood sacrifice that absorbs and appeases God’s wrath against sin. In the Bible, the word for propitiation is also used of the mercy seat – then from the power of Satan/darkness/sin – Acts 26:16/ Col 1:13/Rom 1:3 – he must purchase or own us before He could work on us – Acts 20:28 – he must ransom us – 1Tim 2:6/Mark 10:45) *before God could give us a penitent heart.

Penitence is the result of the work of redemption within the heart, not the other way round. And that’s what “the gospel of grace” does to a soul. It first prepares the soul to receive the incorruptible seed of the word – 1Pet 1:23. And the unseen hand that does all is the Holy Ghost. When God says, let there be light, in a moment the Spirit that broods over that formless, void soul, transforms him/her into a new creature. What did God say? A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you (Ezekiel 36:26). To Israel God says: I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: AND they shall look upon me – Zech 12:10. Unless God initiates no creature can be saved, period.

The God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power (Eph 1:17-19).

When Peter said to Jesus, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” To this Jesus responded, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven” (Matt 16:16-17).

And for the Spirit to work in a soul, that soul must first experience the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Ghost (Titus 3:5). Because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts – Gal 4:6.

The work of Grace within the heart of man precedes the Spirit indwelling. For no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost – 1Cor 12:3. That is why it is called the “gospel of the grace of God” – Acts 20:24/Titus 3:4/2Tim 1:10/1John 4:9/John 1:17. And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus – 1Tim 1:14/Acts 15:11/Rom 8:32.

  • This gracious gift of faith (imputed precious faith – 2Pet 1:1/Rom 12:3), entitles us to be justified “by his grace” (Rom 3:24/Tit 3:7);
  • God forgives our trespasses “according to the riches of his grace” (Eph 1:7);
  • He saves us “through the grace of the Lord Jesus” (Acts 15:11);
  • And “makes all grace abound” to us for “every good work” (2 Cor 9:8);
  • He makes his grace sufficient for all our affliction (2 Cor 12:9) and empowers us to strive harder than we thought we could (1 Cor 15:10) through the grace of God.
  • He grants “grace to help in time of need” (Heb. 4:16);
  • He gives us “eternal comfort and good hope through grace” (2 Thess 2:16);

That in the end “the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in us, and we in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ” (2 Thess 1:12). Where is boasting then? God hath chosen us in Christ, that no flesh should glory in His presence – 1Cor 1:29. That’s why we sing:

Amazing grace
that saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
was blind, but now I see.

‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
and grace my fears relieved;
how precious did that grace appear
the hour I first believed!

To Israel it was the “gospel of Peace” Acts 10:36/Rom 5:10/2Cor 5:18. But they turned it down – Acts 13:46/3:14,15.

Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again (John 3:7) – Except a man be born of water (word of God – Eph 5:26/1Pet 1:23) and of the Spirit, he CANNOT enter into the kingdom of God (John 3:5) – the kingdom of God is righteousness, and peace (rest), and joy in the Holy Ghost –Rom 14:17– and thus be delivered from the wrath of God first –Eph 2:3/Col 3:6/Rom 5:16,18/Rom 1:32/2:5 (Propitiation – 1John 2:2 – means “to appease someone’s anger” – Propitiation is the sole means to assuage God’s wrath against sin – What was our condition? We were “dead in sins,” “powerless,” “ungodly,” “sinners,” “enemies”); and once you are at peace with God –Rom 5:1, that alone orients us to be saved from the power of darkness, and thus be translated into the kingdom of his dear Son (Col 1:13). This is that strait gate and the narrow way which Jesus was talking about, that alone leads to life (Matthew 7:14). There is simply no shortcut to it.

We were not only estranged from God, but were also under his anger (John 3:36/Rom 1:18/5:9/Gal 3:10). None of them can in any way redeem his brother or pay a ransom to God for him (Psalm 49:7). For all have come short of the glory of God – Rom 3:23. As a result, God intervened in his infinite mercy to provide Christ as the propitiation for God’s own wrath (Rom. 3:25).

But after that the kindness and love of God our Savior toward man appeared – Titus 3:4/John 1:17 – by the righteousness of one the FREE GIFT came upon all men unto justification of life – Rom 5:18.

That is why it is called “good news” = God’s grace/mercy is come to earth to ransom us, to justify (legal term), to purchase, to deliver, to redeem. The SAVIOR of the world is come that believing* (as many as were ordained to eternal life believed – Acts 13:48 – them that have obtained like precious faith – 2 Peter 1:1) *we might have life through his name – John 20:31.

The truth is, according to His mercy, He saved us (Titus 3:5/Rom 9:13-18). It is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy. Some of us venerate our ‘free will‘ don’t we? Well, there’s no credence to that – to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not (Romans 7:18) – for I am carnal and sold under sin – Rom 7:14 – this is how weak a soul is apart from Christ. I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 7:25) – that now we are more than conquerors through him that loved us (Romans 8:37) – nevertheless, it is God which works in us both to will and to do of his good pleasure (Philippians 2:13)

Therefore hath He mercy on whom He will have mercy, and whom He will He hardens (Romans 9:16-18). What did Jesus say? For judgment, I am come into this world, that they which see not might see (the heathen); and that they which see (Israel could see what Moses and the prophets were saying) might be made blind (John 9:39).

This is the reason why the children of Israel were given the choice to repent (baptism of repentance – Mark 1:4) when the Master was present with them. But when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful (Rom 1:21) – they denied the Holy One and the Just (Acts 3:14) – they rejected the word of God – Acts 13:46 – and thus some branches were broken off – Rom 11.

And that door got shut. Didn’t Jesus warn them? He was in a way telling them that, this is one opportunity that you should not fritter away – Strive to enter in at the strait gate – Otherwise, When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without (the tabernacle of witness now in custody of the Gentiles – Acts 7:44,45), and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are (Luke 13:24,25).

That no flesh should glory in his presence (1 Corinthians 1:29) -But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: (1 Corinthians 1:30) – That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. (1 Corinthians 1:31) – toward us is pure God’s goodness – Rom 11:22

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead (1 Peter 1:3) – We dare not forget that! Toward us, goodness of God, if we continue in His goodness…Rom 2:4/11:22.

We received forgiveness of sin (justification unto life) not because we have repented; on the contrary, we could repent because we were forgiven in Christ and the grace of God was made available. We were able to repent because we were freely justified in believing and received the promise of the Spirit.

What does the Bible say? By the obedience of one (Jesus Christ) shall many be made righteous (Romans 5:19). Of course, repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations (Luke 24:47).

Hearing the Spirit-drenched words of Peter, they were pricked in their heart (Acts 2:37) – something supernatural had taken place in their heart before Peter could lead them to the next step. One way or the other the recipients must manifest the work of the Spirit in their hearts before they could be led further. Pricked in their heart (convicted by the Spirit of God), they said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men, and brethren, what shall we do? (Acts 2:37). Then, Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38). When Peter perceived by the Spirit that the Holy Ghost had touched their hearts, he understood that they have received grace from God and are now able to perform whatever they could not do on their own.

At other instances, hearing the word of God, the Holy Ghost fell upon them even before they were baptized in water – Acts 10:44-47. They all experienced the new birth in the Spirit before they could begin to know what repentance really means. Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God (1 Peter 1:23).

The abiding presence of the Holy Spirit and our continual feeding on the word of God brings us to the full disclosure of our true nature and thus being conscious of our innate fallen nature, we in our personal devotion and fellowship with God often show remorse and shall thus be sanctified.

Repentance is not a one-time action but an ongoing one. Thus we get to confess our sins, and he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9/2:1). “Repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ” (Acts 20:21) Our hearts get sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies get washed with pure water (Hebrews 10:22) in believing. If “repentance” was erstwhile, then what is the purpose behind an advocate being assigned with the Father? 1John 2:1

What does the new Covenant say? I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them (Hebrews 10:16) – And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more (Hebrews 10:17) – For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified (Hebrews 10:14)

To Israel God said, I do not this for your sakes, but I had pity for mine holy name – for mine holy name’s sake – I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean – A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you – I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes – I will also save you from all your uncleannesses – Then shall ye remember your own evil ways, and your doings that were not good, and shall loathe yourselves in your own sight for your iniquities and for your abominations. Ezekiel 36:21-31. Here we see that forgiveness precedes repentance. Being justified freely by his grace – Rom 3:24.

But mere words like “I repent of my sins” which many ministers of the gospel would coerce their hearers to say isn’t a valid one. You don’t need anyone to tell you to repent anymore, he could tell you ABOUT repentance but command TO repent that was for Israel. I will tell the difference! Israel who KNEW God had forsaken Him – Jeremiah 2:13 – when they KNEW God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened – Rom 1:21 – they denied the Holy One and the Just – Acts 3:14/5:30-32 – and they must repent and turn back to God. That was what John’s baptism had meant – He baptized Jews for repentance in the River Jordan.

An exclusive grace (of the manifold grace of God – 1 Peter 4:10 – KJV) was made available to them, as the author of ‘grace” himself – John 1:17 – was present with them. The Apostles were prohibited to convert the Gentles but were commanded to go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel (Matthew 10:6), why? Because firstly, their rejection must come to its fulness, which would result in our acceptance – Rom 11:19/Acts 13:46 – secondly, the New Testament was not yet in force and Gentiles couldn’t be designated for inheriting that which belongs to Israel, to whom pertains the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises; whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came – Rom 9: 4,5.

And for this cause, he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance – Heb 9:15.

The word which God sent unto the children of Israel (Acts 10:36) – one of the primary reasons why God hath exalted with his right hand, Jesus Christ whom they slew and hanged on a tree, to be a Prince and a Savior is to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins – Acts 5:30-32. Otherwise, Israel would not and cannot repent – they couldn’t bring forth fruits worthy of repentance (Luke 3:8), why? they still had the conscience of sin – Heb 10:2 – for they have gone astray like a lost sheep (Psalm 119:176/Isaiah 53:6/Matt 18:12/ 2Pet 2:15) – Psalmist prayed to seek thy servant (Jacob)(Psalm 119:176) – And God in His great mercy had heard that prayer and sent the good shepherd to seek and to save that which is lost – Matt 15:24/John 10:11/Luke 19:10.

Remember Jesus was not yet glorified when the baptism of repentance was being preached – John 7:39 – And without shedding of blood is no remission (Hebrews 9:22). Only the shed blood of Christ can purge a soul and make a soul right with God.

On the other hand, the heathens, were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world – Eph 2:12 – they that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure, but even their mind and conscience is defiled – Titus 1:15. And how on earth one could expect a heathen to repent? Repent from what?

There must be first the conscience of sins for one to repent, right? His heart is so lost that only God’s grace can save him. He must be justified freely to walk again in newness of life. He’s lost his soundness way back in Adam. If we expect the heathen to repent, it’s just wishful thinking. You are wasting your time preaching it. Even Israel with whom God had dwelt couldn’t come to repentance.

One thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see (John 9:25). The goodness of God had led to my repentance – Rom 2:4. I don’t know about you; it was nothing other than pure goodness towards me that had saved me – Rom 11:22. That is why we are called the elect, the chosen – 1Pet 1:2/Rom 8:33/Col 3:12/ 1Thess 1:4/Titus 1:1/James 2:5 – God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation – 2 Thess 2:13/Eph 1:4/John 15:16.

Introducing people to Jesus Christ is what we must do than trying to make them repent. Isn’t it a ludicrous idea to approach a Hindu who has no clue about who YHWH is and ask him to repent, who believes in 330 million gods and goddesses? Isn’t it proper to introduce Christ to the world first and then the rest of the work leave it to the Holy Ghost? Why would men want to interrupt the work of the Spirit? Our job is to preach Christ crucified – 1Cor 1:23 – Know that, the Gentiles weren’t grafted in until Acts 10 – it began with the conversion of Cornelius and family.

Afterwards we read: God also granted the Gentiles repentance unto life – Acts 11:18. As he was commissioned an apostle to the Jews – Gal 2:8 – Peter got used to preaching repentance; but that all changed after he saw a vision in Acts 10. If we study carefully the commissioning of Paul was so crucial and his positioning within the Christendom was pivotal in bringing stability to the  structure of the Christendom – Gal 2:11.

What did Saul do, he straightway preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God (Acts 9:20) – Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ unto them (Acts 8:5) – And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ (Acts 5:42).

But what are we doing? What kind of gospel message is now being disseminated? Christ is not the crux of the matter anymore. To simply put it, He is not the central theme.

Israel had the tabernacle of witness in the wilderness (Acts 7:44) – but is now in the possession of the Gentiles (Acts 7:45 – a more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands – Hebrews 9:11).

Now you know the reason why the message of repentance was primarily preached in the gospels; mind you, they were still under the Old Testament – for Christ was not yet crucified. For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise, it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth (Hebrews 9:17). And the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing (Hebrews 9:8-11).

Having now received the remission of sins and iniquities – by a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh – and having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, we now can boldly enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus (Hebrews 10:17-22).

Repentance is solely the work of the Holy Ghost in the heart of man – otherwise, what is grace for? If a person is broken and contrite in heart or is lost and is desperately longing for life within, the grace of God is made available to such.

Jesus said, Come unto me, all ye that labor (wearied) and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28) – He revives the spirit of the humble, and revives the heart of the contrite ones (Isaiah 57: 15/Psalm 51:17) – The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart, and saves such as be of a contrite (crushed) spirit (Psalm 34:18)

Confession of the mouth is the effect of the inward work of the Spirit of Grace. If so, how could we demand a confession of the mouth without having a change of heart first? For with the heart, man believes unto righteousness (Romans 10:10). Justification unto life happens at this point. Abraham believed God and it was counted unto him for righteousness – Rom 4:3. We also believed the witness of God – 1 John 5:9-11 – and thus were freely justified. The next phase: And with the mouth confession is made unto salvation (Romans 10:10).

Natural man receives not the things of the Spirit – he doesn’t understand for it is foolishness—which means, unless the Holy Ghost regenerates him so as to discern. Natural man is the antonym of a Spiritual man, and the spiritual man understands the things of God. The word of the cross is repulsive to the natural man. For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness (1 Corinthians 1:18). If you preach to the natural man, follow the crucified Christ, he will tell you it is foolishness. The natural man is sensual (psuchikos), having not the Spirit (Jude 1:19).

So how do we resolve this issue of the heart. Grace must seek or invade a sinner and the preaching of the gospel is crucial. The preaching of the cross and the work of Grace in the heart go in tandem. Grace gets initiated in the elect’s heart when the gospel, which is the power of God is heard by the mouth. The Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe (Acts 15:7 – KJV). The light of Christ that shines in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts (2 Peter 1:19). Now we have received the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God (1 Corinthians 2:12) – God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:10) – no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost (1 Corinthians 12:3). His or her spirit must confess Jesus – but the dead in spirit cannot unless they are revived by the Holy Spirit. Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God (1 John 4:2)

Salvation is ‘Soteria’ = the redeeming work of God (an ongoing work). Only a person that is justified/pardoned/vindicated can continue to experience the redeeming work of the Spirit of God. Know that, confession is not repentance.

So, repentance must take place within the heart first before one could confess with the mouth. And without a change of heart or the nudging of the Spirit of God, it isn’t possible. But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth, and in your heart”; that is, the word of faith, which we preach; that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved (Rom 10:8,9) – the word of faith near you, in your mouth, in your heart, is that grace knocking – Jesus said, behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door (of the heart), then I will come into him (Rev 3:20).

A thirsty fellow would definitely drink the water of life that’s been offered to – John 4:13,14 – They that be whole need, not a physician, but they that are sick (Matthew 9:12) – them that are content with life, the wise men after the flesh, the mighty, and the noble, wouldn’t reach for life – 1Cor 1:26 – they wouldn’t get the chance – but the foolish things of the world and things which are despised, get to receive from God’s mercy His pardon – 1Cor 1:26-28. Jesus said, I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance (Luke 5:32) – This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him and saved him out of all his troubles (Psalm 34:6).

If sin isn’t bothering/weighing down upon a soul; in other words, if the soul isn’t feeling the burden of sin heavily laden on him, if the sin isn’t crushing him, which are the inevitable signs of God’s Spirit moving upon that soul to lead that person to Christ, the source of all life; then there is little hope for that being.

This life that all creation longs for is in His Son (1 John 5:11,12) – but the soul must respond, the grace of God will enable the soul to respond to the call of God. On their own can these bones live?  (Ezekiel 37:3) – God says, Behold, I will cause breath (ruwach) to enter into you, and ye shall live (Ezekiel 37:5) – I will put my spirit within you, and CAUSE YOU to walk  (Ezekiel 36:27). How do we get this faith operating in us? To them that have OBTAINED like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Savior Jesus Christ (2 Peter 1:1) – as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith (Romans 12:3).

Even the faith to jumpstart our life in Christ is a gift from God. What I am trying to say is that Jesus is “the author“ (originator) of our faith, and not us – Heb 12:2 – it is then proper to say that, he which hath begun a good work in us – Phil 1:6 – For it is God which works in us both to will and to do of his good pleasure – Phil 2:13. Christ living inside of us makes us do things that are pleasing in His sight. Most gladly, therefore, will I rather glory in my infirmities (weakness), that the power of Christ may rest upon me – 2 Cor 12:9. Christ in us is the hope of glory – Col 1:27 – nevertheless, I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me – Gal 2:20. Where is the boasting?

We pursue God because, and only because, He has first put an urge within us that spurs us to the pursuit. “No man can come to me,” said our Lord, “except the Father which hath sent me draw him,” and it is by this drawing that God takes from us every vestige of credit for the act of coming. A.W. Tozer

So, repentance should arise from within yourself – your conscience must prick – the participation of the conscience is vital. And if their mind and conscience are defiled (Titus 1:15), how could one expect that soul to respond to life unless one is drawn to Christ by the Father – John 6:44 – and his heart gets sprinkled from an evil conscience? (Hebrews 9:14/10:22)

The question now would be, can a soul just repent on its own? The answer is No, why? Because there is no soundness in him, he is lost, he is in a spiritually dead state that it would require his spirit to do anything that is godly and righteous; and since the spirit is dead, he or she is unproductive by nature, a branch of a wild olive tree, to be precise – Rom 11:17,24. The flowers of such trees are sterile. When the incorruptible seed (spora – parentage) of the Word – 1Pet 1:23/John 3:6 – is let in or enters the heart of man, that individual has come in contact with life itself. Then and then only can this soul gain any strength to do the things that are pleasing to God.

The spirit of man must experience regeneration, without which the will of man is impuissant. We were alienated and enemies in our minds by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled in the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight – Col 1:21, 22 – do you wish to claim any part in that reconciliation process?

We were sometimes darkness, but now are we light in the Lord – Eph 5:8 – we were without Christ, having no hope, and without God in the world – Eph 2:12. Despise not the GOODNESS of God – Rom 2:4/11:22 – Therefore, be not high-minded, but fear (Romans 11:20). Wherefore let him that thinks he stands (take it for granted) take heed lest he falls (1 Corinthians 10:12) – as Israel did.

We must first be saved from the power of sin that God condemned in the body of Jesus Christ, then the conscience of sin gets purged – Heb 9:14/10:2. Jesus said, Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest – Matt 11:28 – he didn’t say, repent, did he?

Absence of conviction – what does it convey? It says we cannot save ourselves or be right with God without external assistance. Doesn’t God know about our miserable state? Yes, He does. That is why it is written, God so loved! Why did He send the Word of God – the Lord from heaven – the Prince of Life to the earth, otherwise? What did he bring with him? GRACE and TRUTH came by Jesus Christ – John 1:17 – What else? He is the propitiation for our sins – 1John 2:2/4:10 – He is that ransom for us – Mark 10:45/Hosea 13:14.

If only repentance is what God expects from us all, then why would God sent His Son to be a propitiation? Where is the logic?

Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you (1 Peter 1:10)

The Bible says the goodness of God leads us to repentance. The goodness of God! Were we at peace with God at all for God to extend His goodness to us? No! We were all in a condemned state, weren’t we? Don’t you forget that! Being justified by faith, (now) we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 5:1).

Only by grace can we enter – Only by grace can we stand – Not by our human endeavor – But by the blood of the Lamb – Lord if You mark our transgressions, Who would stand
Thanks to Your grace we are cleansed – By the blood of the Lamb – Graham Kendrick

The Holy Spirit (the Spirit of Jesus Christ – the Spirit of holiness – Rom 1:4/8:2/1Pet 1:11/Phil 1:19) must convict a person, the Father must draw a person to Christ – John 6:44 – for that conviction of sin to take place.

That is why it is being said that we are in the dispensation of grace – Eph 3:2. Once this door is shut, then no soul will get to experience such grace. Without the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, our minds and conscience are in a defiled state – Titus 1:15 – For it is God which works in us both to will and to do of his good pleasure – Phil 2:13 – where is the boasting then? To will is present with me; yes, I too acknowledge, but the Bible says, how to perform that which is good I find not (in me)(Romans 7:18) – even our ‘will’ to do good is decrepit and black with soot.

Then where can we find this ‘free will’ that many boasts of? I couldn’t boast in anything regarding my salvation. For this I know, I was lost, but now am found. I was blind (spiritually), now I see. Did we find him, the source of all life or he found us? By grace are ye saved; and that not of yourselves: IT IS THE GIFT OF GOD: Not of works, lest any man should boast – Eph 2:8,9 – Jesus said, Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you (John 15:16).

See what the grace of God does to a soul? Could we call this “predestination”? Can we now claim that we are “the chosen” of God? The “elect” of God? Isn’t this the proper way than boasting about our free will, which is not a reality? This makes it clear that we cannot please God on our own – for all have sinned and have come short – there is none righteous, no not one. The whole Scripture upholds this view. Would Abraham (a heathen – the son of an idol maker) had come to know YHWH if God had not visited him? No

If our “free will” was intact, then why did Israel failed? We read about Esau, how that afterward when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears (Hebrews 12:17). That is the reason why Christ went and preached even unto the spirits in prison (the dead), which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah (1 Peter 3:19,20).

The Council of Trent declared that “the free will of man, moved and excited by God, can by its consent co-operate with God, Who excites and invites its action; and that it can thereby dispose and prepare itself to obtain the grace of justification.

Why is such a priceless redemption required? Why did God choose Moses to redeem Israel from the hand of the Pharaoh? Weren’t we under the power of darkness? Col 1:13 Weren’t we also through fear of death all our lifetime subject to bondage (Hebrews 2:15). What’s the point behind the Lord from heaven entering into the house of the strong man (the Devil) bind him, spoil his goods and spoil his house – Matt 12:29/Col 2:15 – if our repentance would satisfy demands?

What was the assignment that God gave to Paul? To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and an inheritance (Acts 26:18) – that’s the way to go! How can the blind see, unless their sight is fully restored first? Mark 8:24,25

And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith (not through repentance), preached before the gospel unto Abraham (Gal 3:8). Even as David also describes the blessedness of the man, unto whom God IMPUTES righteousness without works – Rom 4:6.

The visitation of God or His favour would result in our change of heart – Jesus said, the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life – John 6:63 – what happens when the seed falls into the good ground naturally – if it is hard on the surface, the birds would pick it and are lost but if the ground is plowed and PREPARED – the seed will fall into the crevasses and will be hidden from harm’s way and when the rain of the Holy Ghost douses that grain of seed, what happens? It sprouts naturally, right? That’s what happens to a dead soul too. The heart must be prepared by the Holy Ghost, the heart must be made receptive by the Holy Ghost (the Spirit of God) – unless God commands, ‘Let there be light’ the heart of man will be without form and void, being covered by darkness (Choshek – misery, destruction, death, ignorance, sorrow, wickedness).

That is why it is written, the times of this IGNORANCE God winked at (Acts 17:30) – but now commands all men everywhere to repent (Acts 17:30) – why? Because “the grace of God” is come. Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us (Luke 1:78), for what purpose? To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace (Luke 1:79). The darkness is past (the times of ignorance is past – the sin is condemned – Rom 8:1-3 – and shall not have dominion – Rom 6:14 – the prince of this world is judged – John 16:11 – in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air – Eph 2:2), and the true light now shines (1 John 2:8) – a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawn and the day star arise in your hearts (2 Peter 1:19).

For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 4:6)

Remember, before God commanded, the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters which had kept the formless earth buried. God spoke, and the light now shines, where? In the dark recesses of our hearts. This you may call “GRACE” – which is now made available to all. God commends his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly (Romans 5:6). We were hopeless, that’s what it means. These dead bones couldn’t live, but the Spirit of God caused them to come to life. Receiving this “FREE GIFT” – Rom 5:15,16,18 – is only what one needs to do. God says repentance shall be hidden from mine eyes (Hosea 13:14). This does not mean at all that one wouldn’t be convicted (pricked in their heart – Acts 2:37). When the Comforter comes, Jesus said, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment (John 16:8) – why would He reprove the world of sin? Let’s hear from our Lord Himself – Because they (Israel) believe not on me (John 16:9).

Being justified freely by his grace (Romans 3:24/Titus 3:7). If on the contrary, Christ becomes of no effect unto you (Galatians 5:4). Or despise thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and long-suffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leads thee to repentance? (Romans 2:4) Our former state was: after the hardness and impenitent heart treasured up unto ourselves wrath (Romans 2:5). By the offense of one (Adam) judgment came upon all men to condemnation (Romans 5:18). There was no hope for us, period.

Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name. (Acts 15:14)–they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles. (Acts 14:27) – Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life (Acts 11:18)

Ezekiel 34 clearly states about the lost sheep of Israel, which are scattered around the globe and that got killed thereby. Christians must understand that the nation of Israel is that Olive tree into which we were grafted in; and mind you, only SOME of the branches were broken off – Rom 11:17 – KJV.

Know this also, Jesus had come for the lost sheep of the house of Israel – He said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel – Matt 15: 24. Redeeming Jacob from his transgression was what the Father sent him to accomplish – Heb 9:15.

Do you remember the parable of a certain man who planted a vineyard, and let it forth to husbandmen and went into a far country for a long time? Let’s brief through it a bit – Luke 20:9-16 – they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him – they killed the Prince of life – Acts 3:15 – even after the resurrection of Christ, the Spirit of God sent the Apostles to them – but what did they say? Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles – Acts 13:46 – they even rejected the word of God, so the Apostles turn to the Gentiles. The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ (Acts 10:36).

Those who have read the book of Ezekiel knows the spiritual condition of Israel, and how low they have stooped into such a despicable state. Unless you know these truths, you cannot understand the gospels clearly and you are bound to take the verses out of their context and use them for the church.

God says because the shepherds failed to feed the sheep and are now scattered – Ezekiel 34 – For thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I, even I, will both search my sheep, and seek them out (Ezekiel 34:11). I will seek that which was lost (Ezekiel 34:16). As a shepherd seeks out his flock in the day that he is among his sheep that are scattered; so will I seek out my sheep (Ezekiel 34:12).

Who is that good shepherd? Jesus said I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep – John 10:11. This isn’t specifically talking about us Gentiles, though he’s mentioned about sheep’s, which are not of this fold that he must bring in – John 10:16 – God says, I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even my servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd (Ezekiel 34:23)

Even though Israel forsook the Lord God, and went whoring after strange gods and did abominable things, they (the remnant of Israel) are still beloved for the Father’s sake – Rom 11:28 – they, the house of Israel, are my people, my flock, the flock of my pasture, saith the Lord God (Ezekiel 34: 30,31). God says For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee – Isaiah 54:7. He shall feed them upon the mountains of Israel by the rivers, and in all the inhabited places of the country and in a good pasture, and upon the high mountains of Israel shall their fold be: there shall they lie in a good fold, and in a fat pasture shall they feed upon the mountains of Israel (Ezekiel 34:13,14)

I say unto you, that likewise, joy shall be in heaven over one sinner (the lost sheep of the house of Israel) that repents* (for grace is now come – is made available – Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently – 1 Peter 1:10), *more than over ninety and nine just persons (the Gentile believer), which need no repentance (Luke 15:7) – to Israel, it was preached “repentance’ – the baptism of repentance – Mark 1:4/Acts 13:24/ 19:4 – but it isn’t a New Testament prerogative. And as the testator was yet alive the New Testament was not yet in force – Heb 9:16,17.

I come again, Israel knew their God. But they went whoring after other gods and did abominable things in the sight of God. They denied the Holy One and the Just – Acts 3:14,15 – even they refused Moses’s words, which said, The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him, ye shall hearken – Deut 18:15 – they not only have forsaken the fountain of living waters but also hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water – Jeremiah 2:13 – like fathers, like sons: their fathers we rebellious, weren’t they? – To whom (Moses) our fathers would not obey, but thrust him from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt – Acts 7:39 – read Ezekiel to know how their children behaved.

They are worse than their fathers. So God scattered them to the whole world that they are hunted down and killed – they are in that lost state – but as Paul said, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? How he makes intercession to God against Israel, saying,  Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and dug down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life. But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal. Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace – Rom 11:1-5

What I mean to say is that the casting away of Israel had led to the reconciling of the world – Rom 11:15. So Israel was required to repent, as they were still under the Old Testament; but now as Jesus had founded the New Testament in His blood – there is now no demarcation as before.

For the scripture saith, Whosoever believes on him (gift of God) shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall CALL UPON the name of the Lord shall be saved – Rom 10:11-13.
